Lady Bay December 2024 – The Annual Summer Cup won by Helen Janetzki & Lyndon Prior

11 teams contested this 4BBB Competition on a beautiful day at Links Lady Bay Golf Club, which is a much bigger turnout than in previous years. The moderate breeze seemed to provide a handy tailwind on the difficult holes, but it made some of the easier holes a bit more challenging.

Helen and Lyndon blitzed the field by posting a massive team score of 51 points !

The Course was in excellent condition and some other great scores were posted.

All enjoyed the day, hopefully we can get a similar turnout for this event next year – which will be held at Links Lady Bay again in early December 2025 – the exact date TBA.

Clare 2024 Tournament (SAOGA’s 42nd), 14th to 17th November 2024

The 42nd SAOGA Golf Tournament (our 6th event at Clare) was held at the Clare Golf Course & Country Club from 14th to 17th November 2024 and was a very successful event.

The weather was glorious for most of the time although a hot windy 36 Deg C on Saturday to a cold windy 20 Deg C  on Sunday was unusual.  The golf course was in great condition and all of the social events went like clockwork.  Thanks to John for organising all the wine (kindly donated by Porter & Co and Kilikanoon), to Bruce & Huddo for the Sunday BBQ and to the Stu / Glenn musical duo for entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday.

There was fantastic support from our Committee for the event organisation – especially Stu, our Secretary. The golf, scoring and the cart organisation all worked well for all 4 rounds.  All mainly due to Stu’s spreadsheets and our interface with MiScore.

The Sponsor’s Day was exciting with a number of sponsors attending and the Stealth Team taking out the President’s Trophy.  All of the generous sponsors ensured that we met budget and, importantly, did not suffer a loss.

Thanks also go out to the Clare Golf Club for their volunteers upstairs and the Pro (Phil) running the golf course. The Country Club was very accommodating with rooms and use of facilities.

Congratulations to James Lunnay as the overall winner on Saturday & Sunday, and the new holder of the Stealth Trophy!  A well earned return to form.

In addition to all of the above trophy winners, 50 prize vouchers were won by 29 different players for various Nearest the Pin shots and Long Drives.

Again, many thanks to our generous sponsors who make the weekend possible and to those who donated prizes for the raffle on Saturday night.

The committee is already looking forward to the 2025 event, having already booked the Clare Country Club and the Clare Golf Course for the period 13th to 16th November 2025, as well as the Clare Golf club-room upstairs and the Saturday caterers again – so lock these dates into your diary now !

North Adelaide (South Course) July 2023 – Lyndon Prior takes the Prize

Golf in the City, Lyndon Prior takes the Prize ! A full field enjoyed great weather for this keenly contested competition at North Adelaide’s South Course.

It seems that this course keeps getting better with the greens now very good compared to a few years ago and, considering the amount of traffic, the course in general is in great shape.

There was a bit of confusion about which tees the men should be hitting off but we sorted this out amicably during and after the game.

1st = Lyndon Prior 38 pts

2nd = Wolf Engel 36 pts

3rd = Chris Skewes 34 pts

As usual, the next 6 place-getters also received a ball each.

Nearest The Pins:

Note that the handicap split was lifted to roughly split the groups evenly.

5th 0-22HC: Benn Cox 2.5m, 23+HC: Nobody

6th 0-22HC: Wolf Engel 1.0m, 23+HC: Frank Sampson 3.0m

South Lakes 2021 Vera Mortimer Victorious – Again !

Great spring weather for the 31 members who made the trip down south to challenge this well-maintained seaside course in Goolwa. It has a good mix of challenging holes with water hazards and well-placed bunkers ready to swallow any errant shots !

Back to the Corio Hotel for the presentations after the game, where the food was great and the staff friendly, although we were a little squashed in.

First = Vera Mortimer with 39 points

2nd = Rob Mulder with 37 points

3rd = Liz Wedge with 36 points (on a hole-by-hole count-back, bad luck Tony Harrison !)

The next 6 place-getters also received a ball each.

NTPs:

5th 0-19HC: Graeme Wheare 3.8m, 20+HC: Annette Pearce 7.0m

8th 0-19HC: Wolf Engel 4.1m, 20+ HC: Mark Duerden 5.5m

Sandy Creek 21-May-2017

Sandy Creek – Match Report

May 21st saw 23 SAOGA members teeing off on a crisp morning at Sandy Creek. The course was in good condition with some spectacular views of the Barossa Valley – and a few close up looks at the trees for some of us I am sure. With a small field and a tight course, scoring was very close. Taking the honours was Benn Cox on 37 points, with Jim Stobie (2nd) and  Ethan Ellis (3rd) with 36 points each (on count back, additional two players on 36 points).

The Summer Match Play cup was also presented with Mike Willis taking the spoils form John Elliot (2nd ) and Andrew Reid (3rd). The Winter Match Play comp kicks off in June.

Renmark 2016 – Info and Entry Form

Hello All SAOGA Members,

Our final event of the 2016 SAOGA season will be the 34th Annual Renmark Tournament to be held at the Renmark Golf and Country Club Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th October 2016.

If you wish to play please review the information sheet and submit your electronic entry form, along with your entry fees. Please note that entries close Friday 7th October 2016

As the majority of our membership is aware, times are tough in the oil patch at the moment and obtaining sponsorship for the event is increasingly difficult. However the committee is pleased to be able to keep entry fees unchanged this year. We expect to run a quality golf tournament and provide plenty of opportunities to relax and socialise.

Below is a link to the tournament information and on-line entry from. Please contact Mark Duerden or myself if you have any questions on the information or entry form!

Hope to see you there for a great event. Drive safely.

Port Hughes – Entry Form

Hello All SAOGA Members,

Our next game will be held at The Copper Club @ The Dunes, Port Hughes, on Sunday 25th September 2016. Tee off time is at 08:30 a.m. with a shot-gun start so please ensure you arrive at the course in a timely manner to sort a cart and get to your assigned starting tee.

If you wish to play please download the form from the link below, fill it out and email it back to SAOGA captain: [email protected] by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday 21st September.  Instructions are on the form.

For this game, the comp fees are $50 per player which includes use of ½ a cart. Green fees / cart fees to be paid to SAOGA account and not to the club. Note that if you wish to use the cart as a single player (with or without non-playing partner) then the comp / cart fee total will be $65. Please indicate on the entry form if you need a single player cart. Carts will be assigned on first come basis as there are only 24 carts available and SAOGA playing members will take priority over single player +/- non-playing partner. (If you wish to walk the course, green fees are $35. However with a shot gun start, use of carts by all players is preferred).

The club is also organising a set menu for our members and guests at a very reasonable $20 per head – please see attached menu choices. Your order will need to be placed and paid for (cash to Mike Willis) at the start of the morning to ensure the kitchen staff are prepared.

As a bonus for the weekend, there will be a prize for the best score recorded on any Saturday rounds played at The Copper Club, kindly sponsored by Bernie Lewis Home Loads Norwood. So if you come over for the weekend, please save your Saturday card for submission, clearly marking the card for a Saturday game to avoid confusion!

Hope to see you there for a great weekend of golf on a challenging course. Drive safely.
