SAOGA Renmark Championship Tournament – 2nd through 5th November 2017

53 adults and 7 children, incorporating 40 golfers, attended the 2017 Renmark weekend. Weather was mild for all 4 days with a changeable breeze throughout. It was good to see some of our new sponsors and also new members attend.
The Renmark CC was a good host yet again with plenty of food and drink available for everyone. The course was in very good condition with the green keeper presenting challenging pins.
Our SAOGA sponsors provided teams in the Friday competition with a total of 8 teams entered. It was a great day with good feedback from our generous sponsors. Well done to David Ellis and the Drummond team winning both the Sponsors Trophy and the Presidents Cup.
The state of the O&G industry has shown some upturn recently and still presented a challenge with raising adequate sponsorship – but still enabling us to put together an enjoyable tournament – it worked out well. Everybody had a great time with good weather and golf. However, good scores were hard to find this year.

Flagstaff Hill 2017 Mark Duerden Wins

We don’t have many competition rounds in thick fog as we experienced at Flaggy 17.
Members relying on course knowledge to navigate through the thick soup to try and find fairways and greens.
Mark Duerden cut through the fog for a great score of 39, 2nd Jim Stobie on 37 and 3rd John Mortimer 37 on CB.

South Lakes 2017 Gary Davies Winner

25 Members made the trip to South Lakes Golf Club nestled between the Southern Ocean and the mighty Murray River .Very windy conditions made good scores hard to come by as players struggled to play to handicap. The course was in excellent condition and Clubhouse food was very good. Gary Davies 1st with an excellent 38, 2nd Liz Wedge 35 and 3rd Mark Mancini on C/B.

It’s a great test of golf with sloping tree-lined fairways, blind tee shots, water hazards, and well placed bunkers protecting the greens.

Blackwood 2017 Entry

Hello All SAOGA Members,

Our sixth game of the 2017 season will be held at Blackwood Golf Club, Cherry Gardens Road on Sunday 16th July 2017. Tee off time is from 08:10 am.

Note that for Blackwood, we are required to pay green fees before tee off. Hence to confirm your entry you must include details of Direct Debit on the entry form (no pay on day).

Note: If you are unable to play due to unforeseen circumstances after entering, please contact either James (0414 844 796) or Mike (0418 800 505) by Saturday 15th latest or you will lose your entry money.

Sandy Creek 21-May-2017

Sandy Creek – Match Report

May 21st saw 23 SAOGA members teeing off on a crisp morning at Sandy Creek. The course was in good condition with some spectacular views of the Barossa Valley – and a few close up looks at the trees for some of us I am sure. With a small field and a tight course, scoring was very close. Taking the honours was Benn Cox on 37 points, with Jim Stobie (2nd) and  Ethan Ellis (3rd) with 36 points each (on count back, additional two players on 36 points).

The Summer Match Play cup was also presented with Mike Willis taking the spoils form John Elliot (2nd ) and Andrew Reid (3rd). The Winter Match Play comp kicks off in June.

Tanunda Pines 2017 Tony Harrison Wins

36 Members enjoyed our annual round at Tanunda Pines – a great test of golf in the heart of the beautiful Barossa. Excellent conditions with no breeze for our tee off time with the day warming to a hot 36 for the finish. A fantastic game from Tony Harrison for an easy win.
