Summer Match Play 2015/16 – Mark Duerden champ

18 players contested the first SAOGA Match Play comp that ran from Nov 15 thru Mar 16. After narrowly making the semi-finals on count back, Mark Duerden survived as the first winner of the Match Play Cup. Well done Mark! Following the success of the Summer comp, a Winter comp will be held with details coming shortly. Match report for the finals game as reported by Darren Griffiths:

Great scoring conditions and spirited company at Grange East for the finals of the inaugural SAOGA summer match play competition on Sunday 3rd April. Mark Duerden overcame Benn Cox 4&3 to take first prize. A hot start with birdies on the 1st and 3rd gave Mark a 3UP lead after 3 holes. Some great play in the middle of the round by Benn got it back to square, but Mark surged again for the 4&3 win, sealed with a great tee shot to 3ft on the par 3 15th.

In the play-off for third, Darren Griffiths overcame Jim Stobie 3&2. Like the final, Darren jumped to a 3UP lead after 3 holes. From there honours were even for the rest of the round but Jim couldn’t make up the deficit after managing to find a bunker (or two) on virtually every hole!
